NATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY: Celebrating our women August 07 2016, 0 Comments

We would like to wish a very happy Women's Day on Tuesday, 9th August 2016, to all the strong, dedicated, hard working, passionate and incredibly special women of South Africa. To all the mothers, granny's, sisters, aunts, friends and family, may this be a very memorable day for all.

We would like to celebrate women and take a moment to appreciate the reasoning behind this public holiday. Firstly, we have put together a video showing all the incredible women who work hard everyday to produce our beautiful baby clothing range.

We hope you enjoyed our video, please share with your friends and family and leave comments below.

Secondly, here is a brief summary of how this public holiday came about:

On the 9th August 1956, more than 20 000 South African women of all races staged a march to the Union Buildings in protest against the proposed amendments of the "pass laws". The women left bundles of petitions at the office doors of Prime Minister, J.G Strijdom, which contained more than 100 000 signatures. The women stood in silence for 30 minutes and then began singing the well-known protest song, Wathint'Abafazi Wathint'imbokodo! which translates to "Now you have touched the women, you have struck a rock". This phrase has been simplified and has come to represent women's courage and strength in South Africa, "you strike a women, you strike a rock".
